Commercial AR-15 uppers, including our world class Peerless Match Uppers, are designed for very specific cartridges, tasks and purposes. They are heavy, cumbersome and can be very finicky, with their match chambers and fast twist rates that are optimized for "shooting games."

First, and foremost, absolute reliability. In all conditions, for all common cartridges.

The foundation of the Fulton Armory Millennial Upper is a new, and now legendary, USGI Colt 1-in-12 M16 lightweight chrome lined barrel, made in the 1960's-70's. The chambers in these barrels were designed to eat anything, every time, always. And they do. If it absolutely, positively has to deliver, these are the finest barrels ever made. Period.

There is today a "back to the future" emphasis on lighter weight, better handling rifles. And for very good reason. If you, or some of your family members are small statured, or out of shape, or injured, what good is any rifle that cannot be easily and quickly transported by foot? The Millennial Upper weighs in at 4 pounds!

Carbon fiber wrapped barrels cost many times what a standard all steel barrel does, yet many are paying these huge prices to get "light." The Millennial lightweight barrel is just that, very light in weight, and proven very durable. No need to be a ginuea pig here. This barrel has had millions of rounds through it proving its worth. And if things ever do get serious, you'll want a time tested barrel. I certainly would demand that.

The most common AR-15 cartridge in all the world is the US/Nato 55 grain FMJ. So what twist rate and barrel length is needed to optimize its performance? You guessed it: 1-in-12 twist, in a 20" chrome lined barrel.

The Fulton Armory Millennial features a Colt 16" or 20" USGI 1-in-12 twist barrel with an A1 font sight assembly. Just the ticket for a harsh reality. It was designed to shoot what you will likely have available to shoot!

A Note on 16" ARs:

The AR-15 was designed with a 20" barrel. The gas port was sized and located to provide proper function and durability. When 16" and shorter barrels were adapted to the AR, the "conventional" decision was to move the front sight/gas block and gas port back towards the receivers, compared to the location on a 20" barrel. This was likely done to allow the fitment of a bayonet (though a bayonet will not work with a 16" "shorty"; that's why the M4 has a 14.5" barrel and handguards to match. The bayonet then fits).

As the gas port on the shorter (than 20") barrels was moved to the rear (compared to the 20" barrel), it had to be made smaller (smaller compared to the 20" barrel gas port) as the pressure closer to the receivers is much higher than the pressure at the location of the standard 20" barrel's gas port. This smaller port erodes much more quickly than the larger gas port found on the 20" barrel, and causes function problems.

Since the Fulton Armory Millennial 16" barrel has its gas port in the conventional location for a 20" barrel rather than moved back towards the receiver (as is the case with other full-length handguard 16"-barreled models), it does not suffer from premature erosion. In fact, because of the rapid decay of port pressure due to the bullet's leaving the muzzle four inches sooner than would be the case with a 20" barrel, the Fulton Armory 16" Millennial's gas port is a tad larger (when compared with that used with a conventional 16" barrel setup) and thus even less prone to erosion than a standard (20" barrel's) gas port, rather than very much more prone to erosion as is the case when the gas port is relocated reward and made smaller (compared to the 20" "standard" for a 16" barrel).

The Millennial also comes standard with Fulton Armory's NMA2 rear sight, which provides true 1/2 MOA elevation and windage adjustment, but with a USGI aperture allowing for small precise targeting, and the large "ghost ring" for quick emergency situations. The true 1/2 MOA sights enable simple, yet true, target math once you get your zeros.

All the components of the Fulton Armory Millennial Upper are made by USGI Contractors. The Millennial Uppers, as with all Fulton Armory uppers and rifles, are hand assembled, one at a time. This is not a mass produced product, thrown hastily together from imported or commercial parts. Keep this in mind when ordering; figure from 0 to 4 weeks for delivery!
